BANGALORE: While the BJP has shortlisted candidates for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, the Congress too has started to look for its candidate for the post of opposition leader in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) council.

The terms of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and other Standing Committee chairpersons’ coming to an end on April 25.

Opposition leader M Udayshankar’s term will also end on the same day.

On Tuesday, Congress leaders including senior KPCC vice-president B L Shankar and Congress MLAs were present at a meeting to shortlist the candidates.

According to sources, Gunashekar (Jayamahal extension ward) and Manjunath Reddy are vying for the post.

Sources added that Chandrashekar (Hanumanthnagar ward), former Mayor, is also in the race.

“Since he has held the Mayor’s post once, chances of him getting selected again are too slim.

At a meeting on Wednesday with KPCC president G Parameshwar the leader will be shortlisted,” sources said.

Meanwhile, the BJP party had convened a meeting on Tuesday to finalise the candidate.

However, final decision will be taken today.
