BANGALORE: An engineer allegedly assaulted his wife in the presence of a police constable when she had come to take her gold jewels from his house. The incident was reported in Byappanahalli on Sunday morning.

Lakshmi, 22, a resident of G M Palya and a BCom graduate, was assaulted by her husband Pandu.

According to the police, the couple had married about two years ago and Pandu and his mother were allegedly harassing Lakshmi for dowry. Recently, Lakshmi had gone to a wedding and upon her return, Pandu and his mother had allegedly thrashed her. Depressed over it, she had deserted her husband and had gone to her parents’ house. She had also filed a dowry harassment case at Byappanahalli police station on April 22.

“On Sunday morning, Lakshmi had gone to Pandu’s house along with a constable to bring 120 grams of gold jewels which were given by her parents during her marriage. On seeing her, in a fit of rage Pandu attacked his wife in presence of the constable. Though the constable tried to save the woman, Pandu allegedly assaulted his wife. Later, she filed a case in connection with this,” police added.
