First PUC student hangs self

A 17-year-old I PUC student committed suicide by hanging herself at her Sanjaynagar residence here in the wee hours of Sunday.

The deceased, M K Tejaswini, was studying at Sheshadripuram College. She was the daughter of Kantharaju, a chef.

Sanjaynagar police, who have registered a case, said she might have taken the extreme step fearing that she would not be allowed to write her exams due to shortage of attendance. According to the police, the incident came to light on Sunday morning when Tejaswini’s mother woke up and saw her body hanging from the ceiling.

Tejaswini had reportedly been skipping classes for a couple of months and had failed in one subject. The college authorities had asked Tejaswini to bring her parents to the college and a letter was sent to her parents in this regard, the police said. Tejaswini was advised by her parents to attend classes regularly.

Further investigations are on.
