Eleven people, including six women, were killed and 15 others were injured when a mini bus collided with a KSRTC bus near Hoskote on Monday evening. Police said reckless driving by the mini bus driver led to the accident.

The deceased are bus driver Mahadevaiah (45), Dilshad (40), Pavitra (22) of Nandagudi; Gouramma (23), Radha (21), Pushpa (19) of Kurugal in Kolar; Lokesh (15) a Class IX student and a resident of Mallimaakanapura near Hoskote; Ambika and Kempanna, his brothers Narayanappa and Ramappa of H Cross near Bhusanahalli in Hoskote.

Some of the injured were identified as Nazima, Mouli, Kumar, Sudhakar, Naveen, Kalavathi and Sridhar.

The injured were admitted to the Hoskote Government Hospital, and later shifted to other hospitals in the city for further treatment. All the victims were employed at various factories in Pillaguppe Industrial Area.

Police said the victims had boarded the mini bus in Hoskote and were on their way home. The driver was allegedly speeding. In an attempt to overtake an Omni near K Satyawara, he rammed into the KSRTC bus. Nine of the passengers were killed on the spot. While one died on the way to the hospital, another succumbed to injuries in hospital. It took almost two hours for the police to remove the bodies from inside the mini bus.

Bangalore Rural SP D Prakash said, “The KSRTC bus was supposed to reach Bangalore and then proceed to Mantralayam. None of the passengers in the KSRTC bus was injured, but driver Shivarajappa is absconding. Another van was also damaged in the mishap,” he said. Nandagudi police have registered a case.
