Dr Rani Christhu Dhas, Principal, Soka Ikeda College, Chennai and S Gunachithra, head of the department of mathematics of the same college visited Soka University, Tokyo, Japan recently.

Dr Daisaku Ikeda is a philosopher, poet, writer and photographer who has received 332 awards from many countries and universities. He is the president of Soka Gakkai International, a lay Budhists’ organisation with 12 million followers in 192 countries and the founder of Soka University of America, Soka Women’s College and many schools under Soka Education System across the world.

The chairman of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women near Ambattur, Chennai is Dr Sethu Kumanan. He is an educationist, philanthropist and an admirer of Dr Daisaku Ikeda which is why the college got its name. The college has MoU with Soka University, Japan by which two students from each college/university can study for six months in the other college/university every year.

They were taken to the Ikeda Auditorium of Soka University where Dr Daisaku Ikeda was conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree, (his 332nd honorary award) by Don Bosco University, Brazil.

They were taken around the schools. There were a few classrooms specially designed for subjects like mathematics, physics and English where there were lots of books for reference and the students can come to the room with the staff and discuss the subjects.

Rani Christhu Dhas was conferred with the ‘Highest Honour Award’ by Soka Women’s College. They were taken to Fuji Art Museum and Min-On Concert Association Centre initiated by Dr Ikeda to deepen mutual understanding and friendship among all countries by promoting global music and cultural exchange that transcended nationalities, races and languages.
