BDA prepares to form Arkavathy layout

The 8,803 allottees may get sites soon

The aspirations of more than 8,000 allottees to own their sites in the jinxed Arkavathy Layout may finally be fulfilled as Bangalore Development Authority the (BDA) is likely to start forming the layout in a few days.

BDA Commissioner T Sham Bhat told Express, “The land owners have agreed to allow the BDA to form the layout on the condition that the BDA allots their quota of sites in the places of their choice and registers them against their names before allotting sites to the allottees. We will start forming the layout in a few weeks and complete it at the earliest”.

“There is some conflict of interest with the GPA holders and the land owners who have sold the lands to them before their lands were notified for the layout. Therefore, we have to resolve the issue before allotting sites to the legal owners wherever there is a conflict of interest,” Bhat added.

According to Bhat, the BDA will have to allot 40 per cent of the developed land to the land owners. Therefore, the BDA will have just enough sites to meet its commitment to 8,803 allottees, who have already paid money for the sites that are allotted to them. All the allottees may not get the sites which were originally allotted to them.

The BDA will now have to lay the roads and drains besides identifying the sites for the allottees and land owners and civic amenities sites that have been earmarked in the revised plan.

Arkavathy Allottees Welfare Association Executive Member G Shiva Prakash said, “They have given many such assurances and we will not believe the BDA till the JCBs and earth movers start working in the layout.”
