BANGALORE: The NCC contingent of Karnataka and Goad which returned from New Delhi after taking part in the Republic Day camp attended an ‘At Home’ programme at Raj Bhavan on Saturday. Governor H R Bhardwaj congratulated the cadets who won awards in various sections.
The team returned with the All India Runners Up trophy that was awarded to the contingent of 101 cadets from Karnataka and Goa by the Prime Minister after the Republic Day function.
Recalling his days as a cadet, the Governor spoke about the need for discipline taught at the NCC in all walks of life. He exhorted cadets to show a similar long term commitment to excel in their chosen career paths and expressed confidence that the nation is in the hands of talented and disciplined youths.
Air Commodore S S Deshpande, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate Karnataka and Goa, reiterated that the team’s success in New Delhi was because of dedicated team work, good training and support from the State government.
“I am sure you have left a lasting impression of Karnataka during your stay at New Delhi. The National Cadet Corps is the largest disciplined youth organisation of the country and has grown in strength since its inception in the 1948. I have very fond memories of my camp life in Shimla. My father would always encourage us to join the Army, my brother joined eventually but the experience taught me a lot overall,” said the Governor said while addressing the students.
Taking a dig at corruption, the Governor highlighted that the responsibility of staying ethical and doing the right thing is on on the shoulders of the youths.
“The falling standards of integrity, ethics and social responsibility, particularly in the recent years, are indeed public knowledge. It is important not to be cynical or ineffectual by-standers, but effectively put to use the wealth of values that the NCC has instilled in you,” he said.
Karnataka & goa best army wing
The NCC team of Karnataka and Goa overall won the first place for being the best army wing, runners up place in the NIA competition and for the DGNCC trophy and also got a bronze medal in the group song category.
Anshuman Magal was awarded with the best cadet SD-Army, Shyam Kumar Powdel won a trophy for being the best Cdr Gd of Honour, cadet Nivedita won a silver medal for being the best emcee, cadets Shubham A Bilawar and Jainabi A Mulla won a trophy and gold medal each for the II best radio control aeromodeller. The duo also won a gold medal in the radio control glider model category, Manoj Kumar J Raju and Preetham won a gold medal in the open model (D) category.
