BANGALORE: In an effort to spread awareness about the benefits of adopting Yoga as a lifestyle for a healthy way of living, hundreds of Yoga practitioners, celebrities, leading actors of Kannada films and elected public representatives took out a Yogathon (a unique combination of Yoga and walkathon)

on February 5. The Yogathon passed through K R Circle, Nrupathunga Road, Cubbon Park and culminated at the City Central Library (Seshadri Iyer

Memorial Hall).

The Yogathon participants performed various asanas (physical postures) while walking to demonstrate and highlight the benefits of Yoga. S A Ramadas, Honourable Minister for Medical Education, Government of Karnataka, flagged off the Yogathon from Freedom Park on Seshadri

Road at 9 am.

The highlight of the Yogathon included the participation of celebrities and leading film actors, such as Tara, Shivaram, Chandrashekar (of the Edakallu Guddada Mele fame) and Vijay Kumar. The celebrities were joined by elected representatives, such as Vishwanath, MLA, NL Narendra Babu, MLA, Vijay Kumar, MLA and Bangalore City Deputy Mayor S Harish.

Senior IPS officer Gopal Hosur and Ayush department Director G N Sreekantaiah too actively participated in the Yogathon. Leading Yoga gurus, practitioners and their students made the event much more meaningful by guiding

other participants.

The Yogathon, organised by the Department of Ayush, Government of Karnataka, was a prelude to the International Conference on Yoga, Naturopathy (ICYN) and Arogya Expo 2012 which will be scheduled from February 9 to 13.
