BANGALORE: An 82-year-old senior citizen was killed and his grandson was injured in a road mishap near J S S Circle in Jayanagar on Tuesday. The deceased M N Jain, and his grandson Praveen, resided in Jayanagar.

The police said that Praveen and Jain were going on a motor-cycle and the latter was riding pillion. While they were near J S S Circle, the driver of a Tata Sumo, which  was  parked on the road side opened the door without any signal. Praveen, who was riding, rammed the mobike into the Sumo’s door and both were severely injured in the incident and were hospitalised. Jain succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

Valuables Worth `1.45L

A 46-year-old farmer was robbed of his valuables worth `1.45 lakh by four unidentified robbers near Chowdappa Layout in K Narayanapura in Kothanur police station limits on Tuesday night. The victim Lakshmikanth, was a resident of Thanisandra.

Police said that the victim had gone to see his farmhouse in Chowdappa Layout and was returning home on foot. On his way, four unidentified men waylaid him and threatened him with lethal weapons. They robbed him of his 80 gram gold chain, `3,000 cash and a mobile phone, all worth  `1.45 lakh, and escaped.

Padmanabha, 38, dejected over unemployment, hanged himself at his residence in Mathikere. Police said he took the extreme step on Tuesday night, when his family members were asleep. Padmanabha had borrowed loans but was reportedly unable to clear the debts.
