Paint Our Earth Green’,  a drawing competition for school children, was  organised recently by Confederation of Indian Industries-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre (CII GBC). The programme was aimed at creating awareness about the importance of environmental protection and the need to promote green practices in young minds.

Over 200 students studying in Classes 4 to 8 from 46 schools in Chennai took part in the contest. The participants were asked to create artworks on themes woven around energy and water conservation, usage of renewable energy, protecting the environment and conserving biodiversity. A panel of eminent persons chaired by L S Ganapati evaluated the drawings. The criteria for evaluation included message, neatness, originality, creativity and visual effectiveness.

Chief guest Usha Krishna, president of World Craft Council, presented the awards to the top three winners. Two consolation prizes for each class were given.

Padmashri C N Raghavendran, chairman, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), Chennai Chapter, N K Ranganath, chairman, CII Tamil Nadu State Council, and Ajit Chordia, vice chairman, IGBC,  Chennai Chapter, were present on the occasion.
