BANGALORE: Four unidentified assailants clubbed a 42-year-old woman to death at her house at second cross on 9th Main, Sreenivasa Reddy Layout in Ramamurthynagar Main Road and escaped with the victim’s mangalsutra weighing 48 grams on Monday afternoon.

The police have suspected that it could be a  murder for gain. The victim has been identified as Nirmala, married to Bhaskar, a carpenter by profession.

The couple have two children and their 19-year-old daughter was married recently.

They were staying with their nine-year-old son Varun, Lalithamma, the victim’s mother and Bhaskar’s elder sister.

According to the police, the incident occurred when Bhaskar had gone for work and Varun school while Nirmala and Lalithamma were at home. Around 1.30 pm, the latter had gone for bath and Nirmala was busy preparing food. Four unidentified assailants, who came in a car, parked the vehicle at a distance and barged into the house as its door was kept open. They allegedly attacked Nirmala with an iron rod and hit her on her head, the police said.

“Hearing her daughter screaming, Lalithamma came out of the bathroom to check what had happened and found Nirmala in a pool of blood. On seeing Lalithamma, the assailants escaped and she could not identify them. Immediately, she shifted Nirmala to a private hospital with the help of neighbours but she was declared brought dead,” the police explained.
