BANGALORE: Sankara Eye Hospital, an eye-care institution is conduction a free eye-screening camp for the driving staff of Acharya Institutes on the occasion of Road Safety week. About 60 members of the driving staff will be screened for eye defects at the campus.

Statistics suggest that a staggering 386 million Indians require glasses or change of glasses, every year.

However, more than 30 per cent of the people are either unaware of or continue to ignore their vision related problems. In these circumstances, the need for preventive eye care in order to be road safe cannot be stressed enough.

Those with visual defects will be either treated at Sankara Eye Hospital at subsidised rates or referred to other hospitals on a need basis. The free camp is an initiation to promote preventive eye care in the city and also to promote the road safety.
