BANGALORE: Mayor Sharadamma and deputy mayor S Harish called for a press meet, twice in two consecutive days to convey the same message. While the deputy mayor spoke on Thursday, mayor repeated the same on Friday and claimed that there was no garbage scam as alleged by JD(S) leader Padmanabha Reddy.

Speaking to reporters, mayor stated that no garbage scam of Rs 121 crore took place in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). “It is a baseless allegation. As garbage tender is yet to be finalised, Palike alotted the garbage clearance work to  contractors without calling for tenders,” the mayor said. However, she said that former commissioner Bharat Lal Meena had approved Rs 1 lakh per ward in November 2009.

When asked the need to call for press meet to convey the same message, Sharadamma said: “There was a meeting with the officials regarding garbage tender today and that is why the meeting is organised.”  A few days ago, Sharadamma had told a section of media that she will convene press meet on Friday regarding garbage tender. In this case, it seems the deputy mayor was in a “hurry” to overtake mayor.
