The State Treasurer of Bharat Scouts and Guides and Principal of Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Dr N Vijayan, was recently conferred the Silver Star award by the President of India, Dr Pratibha Patil, honouring his service to the community.

Vijayan, who has completed 25 years of service with Bharat Scouts and Guides, Tamil Nadu, has executed a host of service-oriented activities in Chennai and other districts, including eradication of child labour, spreading literacy in neighbouring villages, creating awareness on the adverse effects of pollution with the help of the scouts and guides.

The Silver Star award was presented to him to commemorate his distinguished work at a recent felicitation function at Ashok Hall, Rashtrapathi Bhavan, New Delhi.
