BANGALORE: A software engineer, who suspected his wife’s fidelity and sent her back to her parents, committed suicide by hanging at his residence near Sai Baba temple at Ramanjaneyappa Layout in A Narayanapura of Mahadevapura police station limits in the wee hours of Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Kalpesh Deepdas Sharma (25), a native of Baroda in Gujarat. He was married to Kalpana Sharma, a call centre employee, who hails from Baroda since two years.

According to the police, Kalpesh was in love with Kalpana and had married her against his parents’ wishes. Initially, they shared a cordial relationship but later there were some misunderstandings between them. Also, Kalpesh was in a financial crunch and he made her to go to work and she had joined a call centre. But, Kalpesh developed suspicion about her fidelity and the couple quarreled over the issue many times.

“On Thursday, the couple had a quarrel and Kalpesh contacted his father-in-law and asked him to take back his daughter. Kalpana’s father came and tried to strike a compromise between the couple. But Kalpesh allegedly assaulted his wife in the presence of her father and Kalpana left to her hometown along with her father the same night. On Friday morning, Kalpesh called his wife and told her he wanted to divorce her for which Kalpana told him that she was not willing to speak to him,” the police explained.

“Around 2.30 am on Saturday, Kalpesh sent text messages to some of his friends that it was the last message from him and they would never get a chance to see him. His friends saw the message and rushed to his house to find him hanging. He has also left behind a death note stating that he suspected his wife’s fidelity and regretted for marrying her against his parents’ wishes,” the police added.

The police informed the matter to his parents and Kalpana. The latter has clarified the police that she did not have any illicit relationship and told them that even he was close to her friends.
