BANGALORE: In an act to “clean up” the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, Bangalore of its unruly inmates, the prison department has transferred 24 inmates, including four undertrials, to other central jails in the state.

The transferred inmates were allegedly involved in various illegal activities such as contrabanding of banned substances and gambling inside prison premises.

Among the convicts transferred are Alwin, Mutton Babu, Asgar, Govind, Govindaraju, Malur Krishna and 14 others. Kunigal Girish and his three associates, who were arrested over charges of robbery, have been dispatched to Gulbarga Central Jail. The inmates have also been sent to Bellary, Gulbarga, Bijapur, Belgaum and Dharwad central prisons.

Prison Chief Superintendent Lakhsminarayan said that these inmates were kept under observation as they did not abide by prison rules. “The transfers were initiated by the ADGP (Prisons) based on a report submitted to him,”  he added.

He hinted that other inmates too would be transferred if they do not follow the jail rules.
