BANGALORE: In what seems like a local political battle, the residents of Sunkadakatte stand to lose the sole green space in their area. They alleged that the recently elected BJP corporator was venting out his anger by trying to bring down the only park. The residents woke up to the horror of the park being brought down by a JCB in the wee hours of the morning. They learnt that it was the local elected leader who was behind this action.

“He had invested Rs 1.2 crore in 2010 to build this park. This is a pipeline area and although there is always construction work here, we had forced the authorities to build this park. But now the corporator has behaved very indifferently. We have protested all through the day and post this, the cops  investigated the matter,” said Chikkana, leader,  KRV.

The residents further alleged that the authorities were collecting money for maintenance without informing them that the park was going to be brought down. While the cops took the driver Ranganath into custody,  it came to light that corporator had reportedly planned to bring down the park only because a cauvery pipe was to be laid down there. While the corporator remained unavailable for comment, a source close to him revealed, “The park was to be reconstructed in the 2nd Stage of the area.”

The residents continue to protest this move by the corporator and are demanding clarity.
