BANGALORE: Prominent citizens of Karnataka came forward on Sunday to pay homage to CVL Sastry, former president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce who passed away on January 7 at the age of 82.

Recounting the experience of his first meeting with Sastry,  HN Ananthakumar, MP, Bangalore South, said, “I first met him 34 years ago and asked for his help. He provided me with all the support I asked from him.”  Praising Sastry for his achievements in the field of business and art, he added, “In our society, it is very hard to leave a mark. He never stopped working for the betterment of society.”

Ananthakumar also announced a contribution of `2 crore by the government to Gundurao Sabhangana and Mahila Trust which function under the Akhila Karnataka Bramana Mahasabha of which Sastry was a founding member.

Home and Transport Minister R Ashok said, “I saw him when I was a young boy contesting elections for the first time. In spite of being from another party, he wished me luck. He worked in all walks of life.”

Sastry had received   Dada Saheb Phalke Academy Award and Rajyotsava award for his contributions to the world of cinema.
