BANGALORE: The annual art event organised by Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat (CKP), Chitra Santhe, will be organised at CKP on Sunday, January 29.

The event is expected to attract over 2,000 amateur and professional artists from across  the country, including nearly 800 artists from Karnataka, according to a release.

Chitra Santhe, literally means art market, is organised to encourage people to buy art and to motivate young artists to remain artists. This was initiated as art, for a profession, was not financially viable forcing artists to look for jobs elsewhere.

The artworks will be priced between `100 and ` 1 lakh. To attract buyers, no tax will be levied on the sale of artworks on Sunday, stated a release.

Several art forms, including paintings, etchings, murals, prints, sculptures, fabric art, and installations will be on display at the art fair this year.

This year, art works will be displayed in all the four galleries of the Parishat. Several well-known artists including Yusuf Arakkal, Mani, Dr Murthy and Chandranath Acharya, have been invited to the event. Special arrangements will be made for the aged and the physically challenged artists.

Last year, the Santhe witnessed a business of ` 1  crore.
