BANGALORE: A 70-year-old man allegedly raped a 22-year-old mentally retarded woman who was staying next to his house on Tuesday evening. The Ashoknagar police have arrested him following a rape case filed by the victim’s mother.
The accused has been identified as Dasthagir Khan, a resident of Bajaj Street in Neelasandra. The police said that Khan, around 5 pm on Monday, barged into the house of the victim when her mother had gone out for work. The victim was alone and Khan allegedly raped her. The incident came to light when her mother returned home in the night. Later, she filed a case with the police and the accused was arrested. The accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
41 Children Rescued: The Child Helpline officials along with the staff of Child Welfare Committee and Child Rights Commission raided the Church of Christ Home rehabilitation centre at Challaghatta and rescued 41 children, including 22 girls.
The helpline officials said that the children were physically abused by the staff and they had received a complaint about it. The GM of the centre Charles and staff John were handed over to Old Airport police.
“They were running the centre without valid documents. The rescued girls have been sent to APSA in Annasandrapalya and the boys to BOSCO. The children are from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and most of them have single parent,” the officials gave details.
