BANGALORE: Even before Apple Inc’s latest iPad 3 is launched, there are at least 198 ‘customers’ waiting for this hitech device. Cash-strapped Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has a proposal to procure iPad3 for all 198 corporators.
The device is expected to cost Rs 42,000 for the 32GB version. If the proposal gets a nod, Palike has to spend at least Rs 1 crore. “Some of them don’t even know how to send SMS. They do not know how to write letters. If this is the case, what can one expect from them,” sources asked. Dharneesh, a shop keeper in Vijaynagar, said that iPad3 has many advanced features. “How will these features help them? Many of their phone numbers are not even accessible,” he said.
A senior BJP corporator, who did not wish to be named, said, “We can keep track of projects through web-based monitoring system. Also, the Council office can send e-mails. This will save papers,” he said.
