BANGALORE: A 17-year-old student committed suicide on Monday by jumping in front of the metro train at the M G Road station. The student, identified as Vishnu Sharan, jumped off the platform onto the path of the train headed for Byappanahalli. Fire officials said the incident occurred around 8.34 pm.

Police officials later added that Sharan had purchased a ticket to Byappanahalli and got onto the platform.

The police recovered an old ID card from his wallet, which gave his year of birth as 1995. There was no death note recovered.

“He was standing next to me and jumped as soon as the train started rolling. The driver was prompt in applying brakes but the train still rolled over the victim,” said Suresh Babu, an eyewitness who claimed to have been standing a few metres from the victim.

“We just walked up to the platform and the train had stopped a distance from where it normally stops,” eyewitnesses said and added, “The doors did not open and most of the commuters were not aware of what had actually happened.”
