BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday directed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to submit detailed instruction and rules which are followed while granting permission  to instal loudspeakers in the city.

The court gave us direction while hearing a PIL filed by Jayanagar Residents Welfare Association seeking a ban on the installation of loudspeakers in religious institutions in residential areas as they are causing a lot of noise disturbing the public.

The state government submitted an affidavit stating that it has taken all the measures while granting licences to religious institutions to install loudspeakers.

“We have strictly directed them that the sound capacity should not be more than 40 decibels and it should not cross more than 50 feet,” the government counsel said.

Jayanagar Police Inspector S K Umesh who was present in the court said that they have given permission to Jama Masjid in the locality after the petition was filed.

Hearing the petition, the bench directed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to file the details of the rules related to loudspeakers within a week.
