BANGALORE: The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) has welcomed Union Railway Budget 2012-13. In a statement, it said the budget rightly lays emphasis on better infrastructure, security and amenities, hygienic conditions both in trains and stations. The forum stated that it also welcomes the idea of fare neutralisation with fuel price changes to be implemented in future.

The Chamber welcomed the Union Government’s move to establish a coach factory in Kolar and the modernisation of  19,000 km tracks which handles about 80 per cent of traffic. However, it expressed apprehensions about “unwarranted” administrative expenses.

The budget is silent on the completion of 13 projects that are being executed in collaboration with the state government and there is no mention of Hubli-Ankola railway line, it said. The Chamber further said they were worried about the existing 487 projects.

Implementation of PPP projects in the context of land acquisition was also worrisome, FKCCI said in its statement.
