The final leg of competitions in the ‘Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards 2012’ will be held in the first week of April.  Of the 3000-plus applications received from schools across India, 15 individual participants and three teams have made it to the finals.

The second annual nationwide search to identify and recognise school students who have made meaningful contributions to their communities began in July 2011.

Individual and group applications from students of Classes 6 to 12, who have been involved in at least one volunteer community service activity during the 12 months prior to the application period, were selected for the competition.

The top two individual winners will receive medals, cash prizes and a return trip to Washington DC in May. The best group entry will receive medals and a cash prize to be shared among the team.

The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards programme organised by DLF Pramerica Life Insurance Company (DPLI), is an extension of the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a youth recognition programme in the United States based exclusively on volunteer service.

Introduced in 1995 by Prudential Financial Inc (PFI), DPLI’s international joint venture partner, the US programme has seen participation from nearly 3,10,000 school students and more than 95,000 of them have been officially recognised for their efforts in serving others through voluntary community service.
