BANGALORE: Cricket is uniting the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials and the elected Councillors.

With Mayor Cup being organised at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 25, all the factions in BBMP have united under a single banner by ignoring their personal and professional differences.

The elected Councillors and the  officials are generally at loggerheads for various reasons - be it clearing of files, bills, passing the cheque sanctioning of projects or  inspection of the work. There is a lack of coordination among them, it is said.

However, the  game of cricket has united them.

“A game like this is very important at this point of time - to see all the Corporators from both ruling, Opposition and the officials playing with a sportive spirit. This way, the room for cooperation at professional level can be strengthened. Earlier, we had problems with officials when we approached them for any work, but this practice session has strengthened our bond,” said Deputy Mayor S Harish who is heading the Corporators Eleven Team.

BBMP Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda said, “Sports unites all cutting across the barriers. At the same time, there was not too much animosity between us, whatever little was there that too has gone up in thin air,” he observed.

“It is good to see all people under one team. We have  three teams, Corporators Eleven headed by S Harish, Officials Eleven headed by BBMP Commissioner and Media Eleven headed by me,” B Khandre, BBMP PRO, said.
