The Alpha Group of Institutions presented the Alpha Lifetime Achievement Awards to distinguished citizens of the country for their contribution in various fields. Governor Dr K Rosaiah presented the awards at a ceremony held at Alpha Arts and Science College, Porur, on Tuesday.

The Alpha Lifetime Achievement Award for National Service was presented to Padma Vibhushan K Parasaran, former attorney general of India and             Padma Bhushan N Vittal, former chief vigilance commissioner, for their service to the nation over the years.

Padma Shri Dr K A Abraham, senior cardiologist, received the lifetime achievement award for his service in the field of health care while Dr S Ramachandran, former vice chancellor, University of Madras and Rev Dr Fr Casimir Raj, former director, XLRI, Jameshedpur and founder-director, LIBA, received the award for their noteworthy contribution to the field of education.

Dr Besant C Raj, chairman, Madras Christian       College and chairman, Besant Raj International Ltd, received the award for his contribution to the field of management; Jayanthi, IAS, member, Human Rights Commission of Tamil Nadu, for her outstanding contribution to civil service, and music director Dr Samuel Joseph (Shyaam) was felicitated for excellence in Art and Culture.

R P Sathyanarayan, managing director, Puthiya Thalaimurai, Vishnu Varadhan, film director, Vipin Gaur, general secretary, NAI, and PCR Suresh, head of audit, Standard Chartered Bank, Scope International, Chennai were conferred the Allpha Promising Citizen of India Award.

The award for social responsibility was presented to Friends of Police for having pioneered a global initiative in community policing and to WNS Cares Foundation for excelling in corporate social responsibility.

Speaking on the occasion the Governor lauded the college for its work among students in the semi-urban locale of Porur and Poonamallee for the last 15 years.

He said, “For students to pursue excellence, it is imperative to remember eminent citizens of the society who have touched the    heights of excellence by their tireless contribution.”

 Chairperson of Alpha Group of Institutions Dr Grace George welcomed the gathering. Dr Prateep Philip, IPS, Inspector General of Police, felicitated the awardees. Principal Dr Leela Abraham and other dignitaries participated.
