It's BBMP vs Media on Sunday

A friendly cricket match will be played between BBMP and media personnel as part of Kempegowda Day celebrations.

BANGALORE: Members of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council and BBMP officials are going to battle it out with the media in a friendly match on Sunday. The match is being played as part of Kempegowda Day celebrations, which will be observed on April 5 and 6.

This is an annual event.

Speaking to Express, Ramesh Raju, Chairman to Standing Committee (Education and Sports) who is leading one of the four teams said that it’s been more than three decades since he played cricket.

“After becoming councillors, all of us are leading hectic lives with water, sanitation and other problems related to respective wards. A break like this will be a stress buster for us,” he said.

The winning team will get the Kempegowda trophy.

CAPTAIN’S SPEAK

Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda who is heading the BBMP official team said that they are all set to beat the councillors.

“We are very confident,” he said.

Gowda who is playing cricket for the first time says that he can bat, bowl and also do fielding. Deputy Mayor Harish who is the captain for Councillors A team said that they have been practicing cricket for the past one week. “Our team has young members and I am confident of winning this time too,” Harish says.

K Ramesh Raju, captain of Councillors B Team said that they were practising since March 15. “We have a balanced team and definitely we will win,” he added.

SS Khandre who is leading Media team said that his team includes reporters from print and electronic media, photographers and camera persons. “Last time we won one match against councillors. I am confident we will win this time too,” he said.
