Women raped, burnt alive

The burnt bodies of two garment workers were found near a mangrove swamp in Obanayakanahalli near Nelamangala on Sunday morning. As the bodies were found with no clothes on, police suspect the women were raped and then set on fire.

The victims were Gousia Anjum (20) and her sister Rubia (22), residents of Bailappana Palya.

They were working in a garment factory in Guraguntepalya. Rubia was married to Afroz Khan, a resident of Madhanayakanahalli, just seven months ago.

According to the police, the incident came to light when a passer-by noticed smoke emanating from the swamp. When he went closer, he saw the two bodies and informed the police. It is reported that the two were missing since last Friday and their families had registered a complaint with the Madhanayakanahalli police.

Nelamangala Rural police have registered a case and are investigating.
