3 bar girls allegedly gang-raped

Close on the heels of the alleged gangrape of a 21-year-old law student, a gang of eight to nine men broke into a house and allegedly gang-raped three bar girls. They also robbed gold jewellery from the house where eight bar girls lived.

Later, Bidadi police are said to have detained four people in this connection. They are said to be locals and were caught by tracing their mobile phone network. The hunt for the others is on.

The house, which is located near VSS International School at Jagajyothinagar in Nagadevanahalli at Mariappanapalya Circle, is adjacent to Jnana Bharathi campus where the law student was allegedly raped.

The victims are aged between 20 and 23 years, while the accused are between 20 and 25 years.

Police said the eight north Indian girls had come to the city about a month ago and were working at the Casino Royale bar and restaurant in Gandhinagar. They were staying with two securitymen Purushottham and Shankar, and Ravikumar, a bar worker, in a house rented by the bar owner.

“The girls had left for the bar in the evening and returned around 12.30 am on Friday. As they were watching TV, someone knocked at the door and the guard opened it without checking. The heavily armed gang barged inside. After locking the three men, Shankar’s wife and children in a room, they took away some gold jewels. They then took three girls into a room and gangraped them,” police said.

They warned the others against informing anyone about it.

“They took the three rape victims in their Maruti van to a house a 15-minute drive from there and gangraped one of them. Later, they left them near Beggar’s Colony after blindfolding them. The girls called their owner from an auto driver’s phone. The owner informed us,” the police said.

The miscreants robbed nine mobile phones, a gold chain, rings, an LCD TV — all worth Rs 3 lakh. They didn’t spare even the girls’ apparel, soaps and shampoo sachets. A case of rape, kidnap and dacoity has been booked.
