Trash woes worsen as BBMP gropes

The city’s garbage problem seemed to turn from bad to worse on Friday as BBMP failed to clear waste from the streets. Heaps of garbage were seen at many places and the rain added to the misery.

Garbage that striking pourakarmikas left uncleared on Thursday were expected to be removed on Friday.

But with BBMP failing to come up with an alternative to the Mandur landfill, where villagers have been turning back garbage trucks, more trash piled up in the city.

“No waste from the city has been cleared. We are taking steps to prevent spread of epidemic,” BBMP commissioner Rajneesh Goel said and blamed bulk waste generators for not segregating waste.
