Raid on illegal pig farms

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s Animal Husbandry Department raided illegal pig rearing centres in Hebbal and surrounding areas on Saturday.

Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Department, BBMP, Parvez Ahmed Piran told Express “Under the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act of 1976, rearing animals in BBMP limits without permission attracts penalty.” The palike imposed `2,000 fine on Handi Muniyappa, who was rearing the pigs, for not complying with the BBMP’s rules. The palike had warned him on an earlier occasion. During the raid, the team found about 72 pigs in his shed. They gave him a 15-day deadline to clear the place.

The team raided four other illegal centres and found 32 pigs. The BBMP issued notices to the owners and asked them to get rid of the animals within 15 days.
