Family of 4 consumes poison, 3 die

A couple and one of their daughters died while another daughter is battling for life after they consumed poison at their house at Deshathapete in Doddaballapur in Bangalore Rural district on Sunday morning. The reason for the suicides is not yet clear.

The deceased have been identified as Srinivas (52), his wife Nirmala (45), and daughter Bhavani (19), a BCom student. The younger daughter, Sai Lakshmi (14), a Class IX student at a private school, has been admitted to Vani Vilas Hospital here and her condition is said to be critical.

The family, living in Doddaballapur for the past two years, hailed from Kadiri town of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. Srinivas had been working as a clerk in a private factory in Yeshwantpur. He was reportedly suspended from his job last month.

According to the police, the family rented a house in Deshathapete just one-and-a-half-months ago.

On Sunday afternoon, house owner Mallikarjunappa and some neighbours saw Sai Lakshmi coming out of the house screaming.

They rushed to the house and saw the couple lying dead inside the house while Bhavani was battling for life. Sai Lakshmi told them that they consumed poison in the morning. The police were informed. Sai Lakshmi and Bhavani were rushed to Victoria Hospital, but Bhavani was declared brought dead.

“Sai Lakshmi has been admitted to Vani Vilas Hospital. The reason for the family taking this extreme step is not yet clear. We are suspecting some financial problems to be the reason. We are waiting for their relatives to come from Kadiri to get more details. We have registered a case based on a complaint filed by the house owner,” the police said.
