The state government has decided to fix Rs 2,400 per tonne as the procurement price for  sugarcane in Mandya district, Forest Minister C P Yogeshwar said here on Monday.

After taking a delegation of the sugarcane growers from the Mandya district to Chief Minister, Yogeshwar told reporters that “Jagadish Shettar has agreed to fix the procurement price of sugarcane at Rs 2,400 per tonne for Mandya district.”  Stating that for several weeks the farmers from the district have been mounting pressure on the government to increase the procurement price, he said, this is Chief Minister’s “Dasara gift” to the farmers.

In the past, Yogeshwar had also expressed his sympathies with farmers and demanded for enhanced price for sugarcane. He also threatened to quit the post of district in-charge minister for Mandya district.
