Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has constituted special squads to check the illegal drawing of water.
“It has come to the notice of board that some residents are drawing water illegally by removing the water meters.
If such cases comes to the notice of special squads, stringent legal action will be initiated against the guilty,” it said in a press release.
According to the BWSSB Act 108A, extracting water through illegal connection, tampering water meters in any manner resulting in nonrecording or wrong recording of consumption of water or damages or destroys water meter so as to prevent accurate metering of water consumed, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a tenure which may extend up to three years with fine or with both.
“The Special Squads will also make inspections of the high volume consumers within a period of two months in their special drive.
Also actions are being taken to rectify the leakages in ground level reservoirs,” the press release said.
