ATM theft: Cash loading firm staffer held

The Hanumanthanagar police have arrested a twenty-eight-year old man for allegedly stealing Rs 11. 5 lakh from an ATM centre in Vidyapeetha Circle. The accused, N Shivaraj, a native of Hassan, resided in Srinivasanagar.

He was a second level cash loading agent with ISSSDB, an ATM cash depositing company, for two years, and had previously loaded cash to ATM centres.

According to the police, on August 14, the employees of Writer Safeguard Ltd, an ATM cash depositing company, had loaded Rs 14 lakh in the ICICI Bank ATM, the one which had been looted.

On August 16, when the agency did an audit at the ATM, it was learnt that Rs 11.5 lakh was missing. Later, they filed a complaint at Hanumanthanagar police station.

Investigations revealed that, as the ATM is opened using codes, and there was no tampering, the police checked with the agency staff who had access to the ATM codes.

Suspecting the work of someone familiar with the ATM codes, the police arrested Shivaraj, who confessed to the crime and said he did so to make money easily. He had left some money so as to not raise suspicion after taking out Rs 11.5 lakh from the ATM, the police further said.
