BBMP will issue a notification on Thursday making mandatory segregation of waste at source from October 1. BBMP Commissioner Rajneesh Goel told reporters on Wednesday that the draft copy is ready and it will be formally issued on Thursday.
According to the notification, there is a penalty clause for the violators. The tentative date to enforce this new order is October 1, 2012. Till then, Goel said that the BBMP will create awareness among the public with the help of media, NGOs, resident welfare associations, (RWAs) and students of school and colleges
