Claiming that the power to provide reservations for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes falls under the Central list, Republican Party of India leader Tamilarasan observed that the Supreme Court might strike down the Act that allows reservations in promotions for the SC/STs in government jobs, if the Other Backward Classes (OBC) were also included, as the rights to extend reservations to the OBCs comes under the prerogative of the State governments.
Participating in a demonstration here on Thursday, he alleged that that DMK leader Karunanidhi, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and PMK founder Ramdoss were attempting to thwart the Bill by demanding the inclusion of the OBCs. He also charged the Congress leaders are playing dual role in passing the Bill.
