Of pigtails, bows and style

Gone are the days when big bows and colourful flowers looked nice only on little girls. From models walking down the ramp to girls going for a Sunday brunch, hair accessories have become an important part of the otherwise mundane wardrobe. With each season comes new colours, patterns and trends and now with every new wardrobe you wear, there is a matching hair accessory.

Big polka dotted bows with pretty buttons and strings can literally give you a makeover. But the options of ideal but affordable accessories are in short supply. Seizing this lacuna, two young girls have come up with some funky hair accessories.

"In the market there are hardly any players who sell smart yet cheap hair accessories. Leaving out expensive international brands, we hardly see any hair accessories which come within our budget. So we wanted to take these designs to every girl who likes dressing up," says 21-year-old Nivedha Charles, who along with her friend, Nikita Dawar, started their venture 'Pig Tails and Ponys', a year back.

Experimenting with materials like cotton, raw silks, jute etc, the duo managed to make a niche for themselves in the competitive market. Coming up with a vintage collection for winters, the girls are all ready to dress Bangloreans with designs from the bygone era. "For the vintage collection we have experimented with darker hues like dark reds and earthy shades, old fabrics like velvet and patterns like checks. Our main aim is to bring back the forgotten trends," they say. Big bows, flowers, comb clips, hair jewellery, etc have definitely made a comeback and are in huge demand this season. "I think hair bands are no more used only on bad hair days. They have got a totally new meaning now. Indians have definitely become more experimental with their wardrobe. We get a lot of older people coming to us for hair accessories," the girls say.

With very less players in the market trying their hands at hair accessories, this trend is still catching up.

So the next time you think your wardrobe is boring, invest in a bright big bow and you will definitely stand out.
