Man proved guilty in wife's murder, kills self

Dejected over the court having pronounced him guilty in his wife’s murder case, an inmate of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison committed suicide by hanging at a toilet on Sunday evening.

The deceased is identified as Siddalinga, 33, who was a resident of Agrahara Layout in Sampigehalli.

Police said that he was arrested in connection with the murder case of his wife Nirmala in April 2010.

Siddalinga had killed her by immersing her head in the water sump of his house and later had dumped her body inside. The Sampigehalli police had initially registered an unnatural death case. But as the post-mortem report confirmed that it was a murder, the police had arrested him.

Investigations had revealed that he had murdered her suspecting her fidelity. Nirmala’s parents had also filed a dowry harassment case against him.

On Saturday, 9th ACMM Court had pronounced him guilty and had reserved the quantum of punishment for Tuesday. “On Sunday evening, the inmates were watching T20 cricket world cup match on TV. Siddalinga went to the toilet in the seventh barrack and hanged himself to a water pipe with a towel. A prison staff, who was on rounds, noticed this and immediately shifted him to Victoria Hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” the police explained.

“It is suspected that he took the extreme step as he was upset over the court judgement,” the police added.

Parappana Agrahara police have registered an unnatural death case in this connection.
