Deadline for apartments to set up biomethane plants to be extended

Apartment dwellers can now feel the sigh of relief as Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy said that apartment residents will be given some more time to set up biomethane plant in their premises.

The BBMP till then will collect waste from these households. Speaking to Express, Mayor said that they have made segregation mandatory from October 1.  “Apartment complexes with more than 10 units are considered as bulk generators. We have told them to manage waste and one of it is setting up biomethane plant,” he said.

He also said that the BBMP has approved the new garbage bylaw which has been sent to the State government. “It will take some time for us to get nod from Government. Till then we are into bringing public awareness,” he said.

“We will give time for these apartment till then. It might take at least two months to get approval. When it is approved from the government, apartments have to set up the plant,” he said.

However, he said they will collect segregated waste from these apartments from October 1.
