MLA, ex-Mayor spar over sewing machines

MLA N L Narendra Babu has alleged there are irregularities in distribution of sewing machines to beneficiaries who have taken up tailoring courses conducted by the BBMP from 2006 to 2009.

This comes following an altercation between Babu and former deputy mayor S Harish.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Babu said, “On Monday, when beneficiaries went to collect sewing machines, they were denied. It was found that many sewing machines are dumped in a godown, which is locked by the former mayor.” Harish said, “Narendra Babu was the corporator of Nagpura in 2006 and he did not distribute a single sewing machine. The beneficiaries cannot buy a sewing machine at the cost of Rs 3000 granted by the Palike. So, I contributed Rs 1,500 from Corporator Fund for sewing machines.”

“We have sent registered letters to genuine beneficiaries asking them to collect the machines. But many letters have come back as the addresses could not be found. So, we are insisting the beneficiaries to furnish their address proof,” he said.

He ruled out any irregularities and said was ready for investigations.
