Man Murders Wife, Attempts Cover-up

An electrician, who was a contract employee with ISRO, was arrested for allegedly smothering his 19-year-old wife to death following a quarrel over his affair at their house at A K Colony in Mathikere on Saturday night.

Gangaraju (23) had reportedly tried to mislead police by saying Prema, whom he had married in June this year, committed suicide by consuming poison.

According to police, Gangaraju was in a relationship with another girl, but was forced by his parents to marry Prema, who was the daughter of his paternal aunt. However, he reportedly continued his earlier relationship, which led to tension in the marriage.

When Gangaraju arrived at his house late on Saturday night, a quarrel erupted with Prema over his affair. He then smothered her to death with a pillow. Following this, Gangaraju took her to a private hospital where he told doctors that she had consumed poison. After noting that she was brought dead, the hospital sent Prema’s body for postmortem, a police official said.

“The postmortem report, which was released on Sunday morning, said Prema was smothered to death and it dismissed the claim of suicide. The police took Gangaraju into custody and during interrogation, he confessed to having killed Prema. He said he was infuriated after the couple quarrelled over his infidelity,” he added.
