'Helmets are for the head, not the hand'

The Bangalore Traffic police (BTP) on Saturday renewed its campaign to ensure that more two-wheeler riders adhere to the helmet rule. The month-long campaign was kicked off with a rally from Cubbon Park on Saturday.

“The main focus of our campaign is the student community,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M A Saleem.

“We see most people wear helmets only along main roads or when they spot a policeman. In every area, policemen will be posted to ensure that people wear helmets on their head and not on their hands,” he said.

For first-time offenders, the fine is Rs 100 and for second-time offenders, the fine is Rs 300. For third-time offenders, a fine of Rs 300 will be levied and the driving licences will be impounded and recommended for suspension too, he added.
