The Department of School Education has begun data collection of schools for the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE). A meeting on this was held at a private school in the city on Friday in which school heads in the district were oriented on their role for creation of a comprehensive database. The data collection will be done with the help of officials of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

“The heads of different schools were informed about the data collection process. Basic data such as number of children, teachers, classes, labs and facilities available will be collected,” said CEO  A Gnanagowri. “The data will be sent to the Centre and the State government and all policy decisions on school education will be based on this data. Conclusions like how many areas have no access to schools and how many school lacks basic amenities can be drawn from this,” she said.

The UDISE, according to her, will cover all types of schools, State board, matriculation, aided, self-financing, Kendriya Vidyalayas, other CBSE and ICSE schools. The school heads will be given forms and asked to fill in particulars.

The online entry of data will take place in December and the data will be sent to the State government by the end of December.
