UGC website troubles NET aspirants

Thousands of candidates who planned to appear for the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) to be held on December 29, have complained that they faced difficulty in filing online applications for the test.

Thousands of candidates who planned to appear for the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) to be held on December 29, have complained that they faced difficulty in filing online applications for the test. The UGC has now extended the last date for applying online to November 4.The earlier deadline was October 30.

Subsequently, the UGC has extended the last date for paying the fee through online generated bank challan at any branch of the State Bank of India to November 7 and the last date of taking printout of the application form, attendance slip and admit card from the UGC website (www.ugcnetonline.in) has also been extended to November 10.

The candidates have to send the printout of the online application form and attendance slip to the respective coordinating university opted for by them with the fee receipt and other certificates on or before November 14.The UGC is planning to conduct the NET examination for 95 subjects on December 29 in 84 coordination centres located across the country.

“We faced difficulty in logging on to the UGC website. Then we faced problems in uploading information and registering for the test. It takes lots of time for a page to load and the server gets disconnected in between,” said NET aspirant Dinesh.

T Senthil Kumar, former president of The NET / SLET Association, said, the fault lay with the candidates.

“The UGC gives nearly one-and-a-half months time to file applications for the test. But many candidates apply only at the last minute which put too much pressure on the server causing technical problems. The students should have the awareness to fill the application form early and avoid the last minute rush,” he said.
