Nine from Bangalore region bag IGNOU gold medals

As many as 1,938 candidates were eligible to receive their degrees from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Bangalore Regional Centre, which organised its 26th annual convocation on Friday.

As many as nine gold medals were given away, which included four from the previous convocation as well. The gold medallists are: Vaidehi Sharan Paliya for integrated MSc in Physics, Simi Kurian for MA English, Sonia Rathi for MA Hindi, Christabel Nancy for MA History, Harish Singh Bisht and Ramesh S for Diploma in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, B Fouzia Taranum for PG Diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development, Swamynathan E N for Advanced Diploma in Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Srinivasa Gopala P K for Diploma in Creative Writing in English. Pattar Umapati Jeevappa received Doctor of Philosophy in Physics.

R Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor, National Law School of India University and IGNOU Regional Director M S Parathasarathy gave away the medals. The convocation was a part of the main IGNOU convocation that was telecasted live from New Delhi, where President Pranab Mukherjee delivered his address, while Minister of State for HRD Jitin Prasada presided.

Parathasarathy said the Bangalore Regional Centre will offer a certificate programme in AYUSH Nursing (Ayurveda) and M A in Anthropology in the July session.
