Rape suspect slits throat

One of the youths suspected of raping and murdering a 19-year-old PUC girl in a farmhouse, slit his throat with a knife when the police went to arrest him at a village near Devanahalli on Monday.

The police rushed Madhu (24), a resident of Dharmapura village, to a government hospital, where he is said to be recovering.

The girl was reported missing from Friday and on Saturday evening, her body was found in the farmhouse in Gundrahalli village in Nandagudi. She was raped and strangled, police said.

The girl’s father categorically said Madhu and one Santhosh were responsible for the crime.

Based on his complaint, the police registered a case of rape and murder. The police said the suspects were absconding since the incident. A senior police officer told Express, “On Monday, the Nandagudi police nabbed Santhosh. During interrogation, he told us about Madhu’s involvement.” The police went to Madhu’s house, but before they could arrest him, he slit his throat, the police added.

The police officer said Santhosh, who works in a fast food joint, and Madhu, a driver who is already married, were in love with the girl and they had quarrelled over the issue many times.

“We are questioning Santhosh and will take Madhu’s statement once he recovers,” the police said.
