Artistes contributing to Kannada music around the world will be recognised through Kannada
International Music Awards (KiMA) which were instituted on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, noted filmmaker T S Nagabharana said that the awards would be presented in the categories of Best Composer (film album), Best Composer (film song), Best Composer (listeners’ choice), Best Playback Singer (male/ female), Best Lyricist and Best Background Score.
“There are other categories including non-film, devotional, short film, theatre and television music as well. The voting will commence from June 14 and will end on June 23,” Nagabharana said.
The jury committee comprises Nagabharana, singer B K Sumitra, music composers V Manohar and Praveen D Rao and singer Dharma Vish.
Event organiser Taurian said that entries had been received from Singapore, London, Morristown, Stuttgart, Mumbai, Chennai, besides entries from within the state.
