Announce rollback in bus fares, demands RPI

The protests against the recent bus fare hike by KSRTC and BMTC continued in the city on Tuesday with members of the Republican Party of India (RPI) holding a rally at Mysore Bank circle condemning the decision.

“As soon as this government took over, within a month, they have raised fares. We will oppose this move till a rollback is announced,” said M Venkatswamy, State President, RPI.

He said that while diesel prices were being hiked throughout the country, fares were hiked only in Karnataka. “Other states are not increasing, then why should you? This move will adversely affect the common people,” he said. The RPI recommended that state Regional Transport Companies (RTCs) instead reduce the purchase of Volvo buses and add normal buses.

However, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has categorically stated earlier that Volvos were not a loss-making venture.
